I woke up and reported to the office (alone) as I was the duty officer for the day. From there I began to prepare breakfast for the Germans and Auzies. We made pancakes with maple syrup. After breakfast I went back to my cabin and made some tea and opened my gifts.
The rest of the day was spent cleaning my cabin, reading a book and then prepping for dinner.
I had also spent about 3 hours replying to various Canadians including 3 schools that had sent Christmas cards and wishes to “Any Canadian Forces Soldier”. I received 2 family photos, a 3 page letter, and 2 post cards from a northern school in Nunivet. They had an old pic of a Canadian Forces member of the back prob from WW2. One was Air Force! They are now posted on my wall.
I decided, thanks to my folks, to have a traditional Christmas dinner. I invited the Germans to join me as I would end up with too much food.
We made a great dinner of Turkey, Stuffing, Gravy, Peas and Carrots, Potatoes and Rice. The amazing thing is that the entire meal was ingredients from Canada! The Turkey, Gravy, Potatoes and veggies were from a can. Yes the Turkey was actually very good. The rice and stuffing were from a box… the stuffing was GREAT!! For dessert we had raspberry/cherry jello with whip cream and chocolate sprinkles. It is amazing what you can throw together out here.
That night I made a bunch of phone calls, watched a movie and went to bed.
Merry Christmas everyone….
